The difference between hand made and digital typography is mainly, in my opinion, the level of control you have. To achieve accurate results with traditional mediums requires much more planning and technical skill, compared to photoshop. Unless, of course, you're going for "happy accidents". While spilling paint around and trying to combine different materials to, hopefully, get an interesting result is fun, I like to have more control over things. That's why I prefer digital to hand drawn typography.
